A Day With Lord Guruvayoorappan

After along years wait i can able to step up to the well known Guruvayur temple. Its not only to visit temple but also to my best friends there.

It was a cool Friday walk up early with lots of colorful pictures on mind.  Had a beautiful breakfast and say bye to all and i turned 12 PM with my brother to railway station. The train still to come on 2.30 PM we reached station on 1 PM and its enough time to get around and have some cool stuffs on that hot after noon. Later brother gives me some pocket money and i waits for my BMW to arrive ( Indian railway ). However its came on sharp time and it was too rush with my bag its even more. When train reaches Kannur got seat and from there it was smooth journey. I just listened to music and looking at the beauty made by nature with lots of river's to cross and fresh air.

My station is at Kuttippuram, reached on sharp 6.30 PM which is not frequent. I moved to Private Bus stand which is so near to the railway station infact its in front of station. Because of unknown reason there was no bus to Guruvayur, time is also coming late and getting dark, so i hire a bus to Kunnamkulam which is 20 KM from kuttipuram, about 1 Hour 15 minute journey. I reached the stop at 7.45 PM and at the same time lucky i got a bus to Guruvayur which is only 10 KM away from Kunnamkulam, the bus fare is 10 rupees. I reached Private Bus stand and my friends were there to greet me with some smile also made me happy and that fade away all the tiredness on me.

Night we walked to temple which was so crowded almost all the time, because of Sabarimala makaravilakku season thousands of swamis were there. I saw some foreign tourists inside the temple who capturing every moments to make it memorable, unfortunately one drunken even within crowd  traditional Chenda melam and made a bad look and some talks is well. This is so shameful as a countries like india, the govt must take necessary actions and protect women. Last week in Alleppy noticed some same problems as like this which is very shameful as the states like kerala.

Our book room is just 15 minute walk away, anyway we slowly walked other than hiring a taxi in front of Guruvayur. On the way i noticed one thing is when i reach kuttippuram all songs i heard is Religious. Saw so many swamis with sharam vili. On temple even at that 8.30 PM still crowdy. I saw chembai sangeetholsavam there that's only seemed before in Udayapuram Sulthan film. The temple area is so large to equip thousands of peoples. Inside the temple have some small shops which sells sweets, toys, handicrafts etc.

The entry is strictly limited to Hindus. The temple pond also known as Rudra-theertham is on northern side of the temple. Devotees can purify them self by bathing and enter the temple preferably in wet clothes. Dress code is normal like other temples, there are facilities to keep them outside the temple. Camera and Video Recording is strictly prohibited inside the temple. While i snapping picture one guard noticed me that too.

There are different benefits of participating various rituals like nirmalyam is for destruction of all bad karmas, deepaaradhana for prosperous married life, Athazhapooja for destroying stomach ailments etc. Offerings such as Udaya asthamana Pooja, Vilakku, Bhagavathy Chuttu Vilakku, Namaskaram should be booked in advance.

Prasada Oottu is very famous here, thousands of devotees participate in Prasad Oottu. It begins from 10.30 AM in the hall located close to West nada. There's token system is in place from 8 AM onwards. If managed to enter Ottu pura through the flyover above the pond, you would lucky to have number of additional dishes such as koottu kari, uppil ittathu, kalan etc. At night its limited to 1000 devotees.

The the South nada is having Sreevalsam Guest House is decorated well with flowering plants and trees. One of the main attraction here is the beautiful structure of Guruvayoor Kesavan sculptured by MRD Dathan. There’s a garuda and Sree Krishna with four hands on the compound.  Maraprabhu is is another sculpture in the Sreevalsom guesthouse which commemorates an ancient involving Poonthanam and Melpathur. I saw Guruvayurappan there and prayed some time and moved back to room promised will get back tomorrow.

After a memorable night, we turned for seeveli on 6.30, even that time there was no different a huge line of ques. Anyway im also stayed with it. after long 45 minutes wait able to enter inside temple. There's no photographs allowed, very calm and sacred inside. The guards are all around for high security to devotees. Back to hotel and had tasty breakfast.

We had a nice lunch at Food tazza restaurant we ordered for Chicken Biriyani and it was quite good.

Guruvayoor is well connected to all major roads in Kerala by bus.
