Ananthapura lake temple Is a hindu temple built in middle of a lake In the village of Ananthapura, Kasaragod District of Kerala. South india. Which is situated 6 KM near from city Kumbla. Our main reason that to visit this temple is one to visit the temple in midst of a lake and the crocodile In the water. It is quiet spot a little far from the main town. Public transport is available but less frequent. It’s better to take a car or rent cab.
The temple is situated amidst a small lake, very serene atmosphere. Anantha Padmanabha Swamy is the main deity of this temple and the idol is in sitting posture .Is the Moolasthanam of the Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The lake is also home to a crocodile, called Baiba who is supposed to be living in a nearby lake for the past 60 years.
This single crocodile is very mingle with peoples and is the world’s only one vegetarian crocodile, it never harmed anyone. It takes only the sweet rice provided by the priest. It is believed that there is a single crocodile in the lake and as one dies its place is taken by another one. Every day after the Uccha Pooja or noon worship, Baiba is fed with the Prasad offered by the devotees to the deity. If you are lucky enough you can spot the crocodile. Unfortunately I can't saw Babia there.
When we reaches, there are only few people except the temple authorities mostly because of its afternoon time. It was a nice experience, I had quite a nice prayer the amidst of the lake. No cloths are allowed on your top part of body, only Lungi is allowed for girls Saree or suite is enough. After all we continued our journey to Bekal fort which is about 30 KM.
